Miami-Dade Public School Teacher Lucia Baez 

Files for School Board and Receives Major Endorsements

Miami, FL – Lucia Baez, a public school teacher and education advocate who currently teaches at Miami-Beach Senior High School, filed today to run for the District 3 seat on the Miami-Dade School Board. The seat is currently held by Dr. Martin Karp who recently withdrew from the race.

Hours after filing, Baez received endorsements from U.S. Congresswoman Donna Shalala (D-27) and State Senator Annette Taddeo (D-40).

For over 15 years, Baez has dedicated her life to education by teaching thousands of students. Her advocacy efforts are far reaching beyond the classroom with her involvement with education initiatives in Miami-Dade County, Tallahassee, and Washington, DC. She was awarded the title of 2013 Political Advocate of the Year by the National Education Association. Baez has worked with United Teachers of Dade, Florida Education Association, the National Education Association, Educational Excellence School Advisory Council, Association of Latino Administrators and Superintendents, Media Ambassador for the Hispanic Scholarship Fund, and served as the Education Chair with the League of Women Voters.

Lucia Baez earned her Bachelor of Science degree in English and Secondary Education at Spring Hill College and her Master of Science degree in English Education at Nova Southeastern University.

The Miami-Dade School Board Election will take place August 18, 2020.
